Editorial Policy
This page describes how content gets on Nest & Cents, and what happens when it is wrong.
Who we write for
One reader: a household with two kids, a mortgage, a car payment, and a credit card balance, earning roughly $5,200 a month after tax. If a topic does not help that reader get through the month, it does not get written.
We do not write about investing, credit repair, insurance, or taxes. Those need professional advice we are not qualified to give.
How topics get chosen
- A keyword must match something a real person searches for, with a difficulty low enough for a small site to rank.
- We check the current top results. If the page is owned entirely by banks and major finance brands, we skip the topic.
- The topic must connect to a system we have actually run, or a printable we can build.
How we test products
- Apps are installed and used on our own accounts for at least 30 days before a review is published.
- Payout amounts come from our own statements, with personal details redacted.
- Prices and free-trial terms are checked on the provider’s own website, not on a review aggregator.
- If a product changes its terms, the article is updated and the byline date changes.
We do not accept payment for a review, and no brand has approval over the text of an article.
How we use AI
We use AI tools for outlining, first drafts, and editing — the same way a writer might use a spell checker and a thesaurus. Every published article is reviewed, rewritten, and fact-checked by a person. Screenshots, tables, and first-hand details come from our own use of the product, not from a model.
We do not publish AI-generated author photos, invented credentials, or fabricated testing stories.
Corrections
- Factual error: corrected within 2 business days, with a note at the bottom of the article.
- Price or term change: updated during the quarterly review, or immediately if a reader flags it.
- Substantial rewrite: the update date changes and the change is noted.
If you spot an error, email hello@nestandcents.com with the article URL. [TO CONFIRM] this address becomes live with the domain.
Affiliate independence
Commission never determines whether a product is recommended. Articles are written before affiliate links are added, and a product that fails testing is removed even if the program pays well. Details are in the affiliate disclosure.
Review cycle
Every money-related article is re-checked at least every 90 days for prices, terms, and dead links. The next review date is tracked in our internal content log, and the “prices checked” month is shown in each article byline.
